NATIONAL WOMEN'S UNDER-18 CHAMPIONSHIP COMING TO DAWSON CREEK IN 2023
The City of Dawson Creek has recently been awarded the bid to host the National Women’s Under 18 Championship in 2023.
As part of the 5-year hosting agreement signed with Hockey Canada in June of 2018, Dawson Creek will be the host of this great tournament again in 2023. Originally, this tournament was to be hosted in 2020 but due to Covid-19 restrictions the tournament had to be cancelled.
$100k in funding has been confirmed from the PRRD to help fund this event. This is the same grant money that was approved back in 2020 but had been returned to the PRRD upon the cancellation of the tournament at that time. Dawson Creek Mayor Darcy Dober made the request to have the grant money released once again upon being awarded the tournament earlier this year.
In his request to the PRRD, Darcy Dober stated, "The City is very excited to have been awarded the bid to host the 2023 National U18 Women's Hockey Championships. You may recall under our previous bid to host this event, the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) approved grant funding of $100 000. This funding was not used as the event did not proceed as originally planned in 2020."
This is a world-class event and we look forward to the excitment!
